His factories of “dynamite” (no relation) were soon producing thousands of tons a year. Nobel sent chemists to California where they started manufacturing dynamite in a plant in what is today Golden Gate Park. By 1874, he had founded dynamite companies in more than ten countries and he was enormously rich.
